We are looking for a creative leader with experience in managing a social work team, to join North Lanarkshire Council’s Education and Families Directorate. Responsible for the management of a Children & Families service, you will play a key role in the authority to take forward, The Plan for North Lanarkshire and The Programme of Work, to transform our services and improve outcomes for all in our communities.
This post of Education and Families Manager (Social Work) will have strategic responsibility for corporate parenting, This will include the oversight of performance across corporate parenting services and responsibility for a range of strategic and operational functions relating to corporate parenting. The post holder will provide leadership and operational management for the five children’s houses and the Children’s Carers’ team. Wider responsibilities will include designated integrated functions to support the development of the Children and Families’ directorate.
As a member of the extended Leadership Team for Education and Families you will also have a key role in developing and supporting integrated practice within the Education and Families service and for working with corporate and external partners, A function of the post includes, continuous improvement, quality assurance and practice improvement. Your strategic leadership will ensure appropriate professional practice and staff governance arrangements and you will work closely with adult social work colleagues including justice in key areas of service planning and practice development.
We are looking for someone who is committed to involving children, young people and developing services and approaches around the needs of children and their families. You will lead practice to deliver improved outcomes for children and young people, and support the North Lanarkshire fulfil its commitment to keep The Promise.
Line management responsibility for the post lies with the Senior Education and Families Managers (Social Work), Children & Families.
A professional qualification in Social Work with significant management experience within Social Work is essential. Experience in the leadership and development of modern services and knowledge of the current Social Work agenda, and statutory framework are also essential. A relevant Post Graduate Management or Leadership qualification is desirable.
You will require to become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme member prior to commencing in this role and you will be registered or eligible for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

* Have experience of working within a Management position for a minimum of 2 years.
* Have experience working closely with adults with learning disabilities and complex needs, ideally within residential homes.
* Have an NVQ in Health & Social Care Level 5, or be working towards this.
This is a full-time (Monday-Friday) role, however flexibility may be required according to the needs of the service you support. A generous salary is on offer for this role up to £45,000 and a generous annual leave entitlement of 27 days plus 8 additional statutory days.
